Author of “A Perfect Husband” Douglas Wickard

ChristieOhh: How did the novel “A Perfect Husband” come about?

Douglas: Well, I was actually living in New York for over 20 years and was searching for novels for a friend to write. She decided that she didn’t want to right at the time. So, I began writing the novel in 2005 ended in 2007; my friend Patricia Soliman started editing the book in 2009 and it got picked up in 2011. Unfortunately, she died in December 2010. I dedicated the book in her memory!

ChristieOhh: Do you have to write in a particular environment?

Douglas: I write at my desk every morning. I have a light that I turn on; I write when it’s lit and when it’s off I don’t write. Sometimes if it doesn’t come to me I turn the light off and leave my desk. Watching me write isn’t a fun thing; I’m usually in my PJs, just rolled out of bed. lol

ChristieOhh: What are some highlights of your novel to you?

Douglas: I love Sammi Saxon; she’s my main character. She has pretty much taken over the novel. She’s like my alter ego almost. I just love her, her voice is confident, loud, she speaks for women. She shows women that it’s important to stand up for your life and be your own person.

ChristieOhh: Did you get attached to any of the characters in the novel?

Douglas: I did; I got attached to my killer. I get attached to all of my characters. Patricia taught me that…I have to love all of my characters even my villains; you have to love them for people to love them.

ChristieOhh: What is your goal for the book?

Douglas: This is actually my 3rd novel. My first two books didn’t get published. Once I was done I gave “A Perfect Husband” to Patricia and she said, “This one is going to do it for you.” I got approached by an agent and we both thought that it would be a huge success and we would get a big deal. I understand that it’s important for me to push everything and to build my brand; we had to get it out. With building my brand we are in hopes to get a major publishing house deal for my next book.

“Writers have to take themselves too dark places” Douglas Wickard

ChristieOhh: I’ve always wanted to know; how do writers get their minds in that “dark” place.

Douglas: To write these types of novels, you have to take yourself to that dark place and be confident. A lot of people are afraid to go there; I’m not. I have to go there in order for my readers to go there. It’s emotional but Steve King and other great writers wouldn’t be them if they weren’t able to go to that “dark” place.

ChristieOhh: What’s next for you?

Douglas: I have a book being edited now, “Encounter” it’s a Thriller set in San Francisco. Basically, 6 very prominent married men fly into San Francisco for business and disappear without a trace. There are a lot of great characters that will be introduced in the book and it will keep you turning pages until you’re finished.

ChristieOhh: Where can we buy “A Perfect Husband?”

Douglas: Anywhere eBooks are sold!
