Music Producer Joey Bounce
ChristieOhh: When did music become a part of your life?
Joey Bounce: I was about 5 years old. It actually became significant when I learned to play drums. When I first decided that I wanted to be involved in music was in 1st grade; I tried to sing and my class let me know it wasn’t for me. I was in the drum line in high school and at Hampton Univ. I majored in music; which pushed me to move into music professionally.
I’ve been making beats since 14 years old. I started making beats for a local artist in Kansas City. I know my time in Hampton was more useful because it trained me as a drummer and classical piano player. There’s where it really kicked off for me.
ChristieOhh: What’s the thought process when you’re producing music?
Joey Bounce: I like to have my writers around me…to throw out ideas and get my thought process going. So once it hits me we can just go in and create something special!
ChristieOhh: What’s your favorite instrument?
Joey Bounce: The piano! It’s the melody for me. If you can master the piano you can play anything.
ChristieOhh: Do you play any instruments?
Joey Bounce: Yes! I started out playing drums in church; I play the piano and learning how to play the base.
ChristieOhh: What makes a producer good?
Joey Bounce: The ability to listen and to be able to hear what other people don’t hear.
ChristieOhh: Who are some of your influences?
Joey Bounce: Quincy Jones, Swizz Beatz, Jerry Wonda, Michael Jackson, Berry Gordy, Steve Stoute
ChristieOhh: Who is your dream collab?
Joey Bounce: Mariah Carey would be a dream to work with
ChristieOhh: What are you most proud of?
Joey Bounce: My new artist Jasmine! It’s some of the best work I’ve ever done because she’s a great artist. A year ago I worked with a rapper and we won a contest out of NY called “The Elegant Hoodiness Competititon” and it gave the artist great exposure and I was a part of it.
ChristieOhh: Who are listening to now?
Joey Bounce: Jay Holiday, Rick Ross new mixtape, Beyonce on every now and then. Adele Project 21
