Official DJ for GunPlay MMG DJ Choz
ChristieOhh: How did the movie “Juice” influence you to become a DJ?
DJ Choz: When you young and watch movies you always look up to somebody. I wanted to immolate the cool guys in the movie. When I saw “Juice” Q was the man, the cool guy. I watched the movie everyday and I started to learn the game.
ChristieOhh: What makes a good DJ?
DJ Choz: Definitely not records; you play the music you play to make people have fun. I know when and what to play; I tune into what others like and don’t forget I’m a consumer as well. So I play what I like to hear and what I see the crowd is feeling.
ChristieOhh: Did a tweet connect you with MMG’s artist Gunplay?
DJ Choz: Yes, I saw Gunplay and another DJ was talking back & forth. I wanted to have more going on at the time. I found out information and did my research on Don Logan DJs,I hit him up and told him he needed me in the crew. He agreed and I joined the crew, and a few weeks after that he chose me to come with him on the road. Then he was like you are my Official DJ I was hyped. lol
ChristieOhh: How has life changed for you since you became the Official DJ for Gunplay?
DJ Choz: It definitely gave me a pedestal to grind and show my talent. More people know who I am and I get to reach more people. It’s put me in a great place. Life is good now!
ChristieOhh: How much of a factor does technology play in your business?
DJ Choz: It’s a 100% of my business. It’s the biggest factor in the DJ game right now. It’s no way I could carry 10 crates in a club right now. It would be expensive and time consuming. But it does have its down side because any Tom, Dick or Harry can buy a laptop and change their name to DJ.
ChristieOhh: Have you ever gotten caught up in a concert and forgot you were the DJ?
DJ Choz: I basically stay focused. I’m on edge when I DJing because I’m controlling the whole situation. I might rock out at the very last song. For the most part I’m on point when I’m working, I’m a naturally shy person so I don’t look at the crowd to much. Until his final song “Rolling” comes on.
ChristieOhh: What’s next?
DJ Choz: I want to do radio in the near future. My mix show on my website www.djchoz.com has me excited and looking forward to the response. In the far future I want to be one of the biggest DJ in the game; I want to bring out the next hottest artist. I want to be the DJ that brought you such and such; so when I’m gone my legacy will still go on through music.
ChristieOhh: How is it to see Gunplay’s success?
DJ Choz: To me it’s the most beautiful thing in the world. I have always been a fan and love his music. I was there when people didn’t want to give him a chance and we were going to shows driving ourselves. And now he’s getting booked with big names. People told me, “You’re not going to make it being GunPlay’s DJ.” It’s like seeing your big brother playing basketball in front of you and then seeing him go to the NBA. I’m like a proud little brother! With his personality and looks alone he can do some much. He’s a well rounded artist and he’s finally getting people’s ear. Ross is excited about Gunplay’s career too.
ChristieOhh: How was it moving from Miami to LA?
DJ Choz: It’s been almost like as big as it was when I got with Gunplay. It’s a different culture and coming from a place where it’s like my team and me and that’s it to where people want to help you for no apparent reason it’s been great to me, but definitely a culture shock . I was scared to leave because I had never even been to LA before but I was embraced and people knew I was Gunplay DJ and that was a trip for me.
ChristieOhh: Any hidden talents?
DJ Choz: One of these days I may start rapping, I’m still kind of shy about it though. lol
ChristieOhh: Favorite Music?
DJ Choz: Right now I’m so SICK OF HIP HOP. In the beginning they grab me and then it goes away. Electronic music, techno music is moving the crowd these days. To see how people react to hip hop techno music has me thinking about exploring that genre of music. Ross and J. Cole are two artist that I listen to other than Gunplay.
ChristieOhh: Who’s up and coming?
DJ Choz: Klean he’s my homie from Miami. I’ve seen his grind. Travi$ Scott he’s an artist out of Houston, my homeboy manages. He’s going to be big.
