Catching up with Event, Food & Master Blogger Shelly Flash
ChristieOhh: Tell me what The Event Junkies and OrlandoLive is all about!
Shelly: With Event Junkies, our goal is to give you an all access pass to all events big or small. We have photography and ticket giveaways to some of Orlando’s most popular events. Our core is our event calendar; which is accompanied by our blog that features music, fashion & other cool finds. We give you a peak to see what’s going on the Orlando event scene. We definitely target a variety of events! As an event planner and social junkie we just want to provide you with great events to come out to and enjoy.
With Orlando Live at The Social we wanted to showcase and highlight Orlando creative community. We provide an open stage once month; that ranges from a hip hop to rock. Plus we have a vendor-style artist pop-up shop and close with a live hiphop cypher – not your standard club night entertainment. We wanted to give artists a platform and opportunity to show their talents. The energy is so addictive and allows you to bring it!
ChristieOhh: How did you get into blogging?
Shelly: I’ve been writing since I was 10; poetry and different creative pieces and for it to take on a new name called a blog came natural to me. I’ve always been into writing and expressing myself on paper. I have taken a lot of pictures along the way. So it just transferred into blogging for me.
ChristieOhh: How did you enjoy contributing to Global Grind?
Shelly: It was amazing. I wrote from the perspective of a single black female, discussing my dating and social life. I had a lot of contributions because I was single, dating in Atlanta and gave great detail. Than people saw my writing skills and I also did radio at the time, so people were like, “Oh can you write about my events?” and things just took off for me.
ChristieOhh: Lately, you have been blogging about food…tell me more.
Shelly: I like to say I’m a “ Food Hobbyist” because I just love food – I love pretty food, cooking and of course eating food. One common thread that brings people together is food; it’s like music. I started putting pictures on social media and people would comment so I went on with it. I love new drinks too; from cocktails to energy drink. So I continued to share on my food blog - foodhobbyist.com
ChristieOhh: What’s next?
Shelly: My goal is to be considered a resource and authority in the media world. I covered events for Red Bull, BET’s Master of the Mix Smirnoff & ESPN…. I want to do more. Being featured on radio and TV, as the girl that can go from judging food to being the go to girl for the hottest events – I want to do it all. I would have never thought just being me would have a voice; I’m awkward, corny and I can watch TV for hours – I would have never thought anyone would identify with me. I want to put a smile on peoples faces. There are a lot of things going on and I just want to embrace what God has in store for my voice.
ChristieOhh: What’s your motivation?
Shelly: Recently I’ve been pulling from a few mantras. “I live now!”, “Don’t live for past but remember your future” and “Dance like nobody’s watching” – I like to live by words. I love talking to people and listening to the words of other people as well. Someone recently said, “I love you.” I said, “Why?” They responded, “Because you are always going and even if you fall, you are always getting back up and going.” Even if it’s in a circle I’m going to keep going!
