TVOne RandB Divas Star Syleena Johnson

ChristieOhh: How did the show all come about for you?

Syleena: It wasn’t a casting type of deal. Nicci called me like…“Girl I have this idea!” I thought it was a great idea and I thought to bring on KeKe. We all have been friends over the years. Nicci called a lot of different women but I guess we were the last one’s standing. It’s a blessing!

ChristieOhh: How was it working with all the girls?

Syleena: Most of the time, 90% of the time it was an absolute joy because we are friends. Just getting together and having fun all the time is what we do so that was amazing. There were few times where people were tired, ready to go because we are women and strong women to say the least. We had our ticks for tacks but it was very slim. We just had fun and enjoyed ourselves!

ChristieOhh: What can we expect from you this season?

Syleena: One of the things I have been getting a lot of is, “Syleena you’re real” that kind of surprised me because I thought we were doing a reality show. (lol) But it occurred to me that the public doesn’t believe these show are real. We aren’t scripted, we aren’t millionaires driving around in a Bentleys, and we are who we are. I inspire women to be who they are and keep going. I’ve had a very long journey to get to this point. Too keep going and never give up are words that I live by and encourage other women to live by.

“Even though everything in life is not perfect but because I know the possibilities that are about to come and what God has in store for me it makes me happy everyday! I appreciate and love me no matter what, I love me and appreciate me!” Syleena Johnson

ChristieOhh: What are some things you have overcome?

Syleena: Aww girl we could be here all day! First, God has been so good to me. He is everything to me. I’ve overcome a lot of things, being a mother, working pregnant, going back and forth with a label for 9 years and being dropped. Having trouble with my vocal cords and have to change my diet and lifestyle to even be able to sing. Having to overcome not even wanting to sing anymore and finding my way back. Just the opposition of the industry we face as a woman, as a mother. But I’m here and I’m excited!!!

ChristieOhh: What’s your motivation right now?

Syleena: Again, first of all God. How good he has been to me. Even times when I didn’t feel his presents. The bullets that he protected me from and knowing it and just being able to say, “Thank you lord for protecting me.” My children and my family. Just being able to support them and show them that I am strong. Music, I love music and I can’t stop. My family and I are very close. My sister is my manager and we call ourselves “The Circle” My husband is inspirational. I’m blessed! I’m here, I’m breathing, I’m living, I’m healthy and my children are ok!

ChristieOhh: What can we expect from you moving forward? (Projects, etc.)

Syleena: “Acoustic Soul Sessions” coming out Sept. 25th digitally only.

“Mommy’s Got Soul,” A workout DVD for mommies losing weight. This workout DVD is like no other because the people in it and me are all curvy women who have children and are working on our bodies at the same time.
So, it very fun to be a part of such a great movement. I’m taking in very seriously and want to break into the fitness world; I’m currently in school for Nutrition Science.

“Rebirth of Soul” coming out the top of the year.

Working on Chapter 6 “The Awakening”

R&B Divas Mon. 10p ET TV One

Just trying to work and capitalize. At the end of the day, we are friends before the show and I’m praying that doors open for all of us and I’m very grateful to have that type of bond with 4 other black women.
