Singer, XFactor Contestant & America’s newest crush David Correy
ChristieOhh: When did you fall in love with music?
David Correy: When I got my first Michael Jackson CD “Dangerous” in 1991. I was about 9 years old. From there it was history.
ChristieOhh: As a child, did you know you would become a singer?
David Correy: I just knew I was so enthusiastic about being on stage and having a microphone in my hand. My father built me a stage so that I could perform. I was obsessed with wanting to be on stage. In 7th grade I knew I wanted to be a singer, I was in a play called “Bye Bye Birdie” and from there I knew entertaining was for me.
ChristieOhh: How has your being adopted affected your drive & determination? Do you feel that it has made you go harder for your dreams?
David Correy: I want to be successful as bad as I want to breathe. I want to prove to people that I deserve to be here. I’m not looking for anything but the opportunity to work hard. I have been to more malls, gas station, hotels then any singer. My grind is like a rapper. Trey Songz was one of the only R&B singers that went hard with mix tapes and he is an inspiration to me. I love to grind! I feel like a loser if I’m not doing anything or just sitting around. My whole life I surrounded myself with people who go harder than me and are smarter than me. I’m hungry, every day I have to go get it like it’s my last meal.
ChristieOhh: How are your family and friends embracing your XFactor success so far?
David Correy: They are so proud of me. I have been doing this for so long; they are like thank you it’s finally happened. Everything is premeditated to me. Win, lose or draw I showed, “The DREAMERS WON.”
“Love and do what you love to do.” David Correy
ChristieOhh: How has The XFactor changed the game for you personally and professionally?
David Correy: It’s crazy! Like me personally, I’m such a regular dude and treat people the same. You never know who the next Einstein or Michael Jordan is going to be. You never know. I kept it so G because I wanted people to know everything about me. I have always kept my nose clear. I’m something like Roy Jones Jr., “The People’s Champ” I want to be the dude that inspires everybody!
ChristieOhh: What has the experience of working with “The Judges” been like for you?
David Correy: Flattering and humbling! They are not going to lie to you at all. I like it because I want to be the best I can be. It’s been incredible for me!
ChristieOhh: What artists/entertainers inspire you?
David Correy: I love MJ! But hands down my favorite artist is Usher! I have to meet Usher before I die. I respect his grind; people don’t know how much he went through to accomplish all that he has accomplished. Trey Songz, Pink, Lenny Kravitz… My last dream John Mayer play guitar for me and I’ll be straight. (lol)
ChristieOhh: Best advice for that not so confident teenager that has a dream?
David Correy: I was never confident, I was always shy. I embraced my imperfection, the main thing you can do is don’t be scared to fail. I’ve been told no so many times, if you can only think about that one thing everyday that’s what you should be doing. At the end of the day my message is so much bigger than my voice. You have to get the message out there to everybody if you don’t use your platform for something good then you’re not winning.
