Eric Benet talks new album “The One”, Fatherhood and more.
Thursday, January 17th, 2013Eric Benet is at the top of his game, with a new record label Jordan House Records and new album entitled, “The One.” Along with his music career, Eric is an amazing husband and father and a big Obama supporter. I had a great interview with Eric just catching up and seeing how he’s balancing it all! Enjoy our interview!
ChristieOhh: How are you balancing everything?
Eric: I have an amazing partner in my life I couldn’t do it without her. When you’re at home you make the best and most out of your time and when I hit the road, I check in and stay connected. When you have to leave it just makes that time when you are there that much more special and engaging.
ChristieOhh: What is fatherhood like to you?
Eric: For me it’s the best thing about being alive! Whether it’s with India just catching up with her and spending time with her and talking what’s going on and her little challenges that she facing in school and a woman now and being there for her through those things as she’s sorting through.
And Lucia she’s discovering life and everything is so fascinating to her. It’s really like the best thing about being alive is being a parent to me.
ChristieOhh: You are a big President Obama supporter! How important is his last term to you?
Eric: I just think it’s important for anyone who has a voice to use it. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion or I haven’t been afraid to voice my opinion in interviews, on twitter. It’s an awful lot that needs to be done in this next four years; from immigration reform to getting the Republican Party to support him. However, it feels good to have a President that seems to be on the same page as me.
ChristieOhh: What are you looking forward to in 2013?
Eric: I’m just having so much fun working this record, “The One” and I am having fun touring the country and the world. We are in a single right now “News For You” which is doing incredibly well and one of the great things about having my own label is we finished working this project and I will probably do a new single after this record “News For You” people are just loving this record and this is just going to be the main focal point for me is just doing my music and some other really interesting things that are in the works. I really can’t talk about right now but really exciting, unexpected things for me.
ChristieOhh: Any New Year’s Resolutions?
Eric: I don’t really like to make New Year’s Resolutions; I just like to continue daily to do better, be better, grow, learn and enjoy myself doing it.
ChristieOhh: What are some of the most valuable lessons you have learned that you would like to share with your fans for encouragement?
Eric: Even though it’s difficult sometimes try to live your life in the present, in the moment. Don’t obsess about the past or be fearful of the future, just enjoy what you have and be grateful for that, nurture that and more will come.

Folk influenced Duo Georgia Sound chats w/ ChristieOhh!
Thursday, November 29th, 2012ChristieOhh: How did you guys meet?
Georgia Sound: We met at a café named, “Koi.” They hold an open mic every Tuesday.
ChristieOhh: Did you become fans of each other?
Georgia Sound: (Ryan) I was actually looking for a piano player and Shannon was the best pianist I had heard in a while so I approached her about music and it went from there. I had been in a rock group prior to meeting Shannon.
ChristieOhh: What do each of you add personally and professionally?
Georgia Sound: (Ryan) I play guitar and sing. I’m a perfectionist and a control freak but I have to kind of let go of that to make the band work. Initially, I was just looking for a pianist and Shannon had good songs.
(Shannon) I sing and play piano. I’m classically trained. My writing style is different from Ryan’s but we balance and work with each other and change.
ChristieOhh: How do you come up with your songs?
Georgia Sound: (Shannon) Usually from personal experiences and sometimes I try to think of things outside of myself and pull things out that are outside of my personal experience.
(Ryan) I’ve been letting the music come through when I’m thumbing on a guitar.
ChristieOhh: Who has inspired your music?
Georgia Sound: (Shannon) I like Sarah McLachlan, we both like The Civil Wars!
(Ryan) Ray Lamontagne got me into the whole folk scene.
ChristieOhh: What’s your sound like?
Georgia Sound: A little folk, classical and rock mixed together and we both do leads on the album.
ChristieOhh: Who are you listening too?
Georgia Sound: Will Wood, Florence +the Machine. Kate Rusby, she’s a British folk singer, Lucy Rhodes, Flying Frisbee.
ChristieOhh: Where can we hear your music?
Georgia Sound: You can buy and hear our music on iTunes, Reverbnation, our FB page www.facebook.com/GeorgiaSoundBand, SoundCloud

Country Singer Ricky Young talk album, influences and more!
Friday, November 9th, 2012ChristieOhh: Where are originally from?
Ricky: I’m from Columbia, SC. I’ve bounced around South East for a few years.
ChristieOhh: When did you get your start?
Ricky: I picked up a guitar at 17, which for most artists is pretty late in life. I guess God had his plans for me. I did a lot in between. I was in church choir. One of my buddies had a guitar and I started playing it. I saw girls would come around and said, “What is this all about?” So, picked it up! I had all good intentions.
ChristieOhh: Who are some artists that you like and that inspire you?
Ricky: You may not believe me but I started off with R&B. I like all types of music. I’m inspired by James Taylor, Hootie and The Blowfish (they are a big influence being from my hometown), and Garth Brooks. I love the 1993 R. Kelly “12 Play,” Boys 2 Men, New Edition, they all gave me the soulful deep roots when I write and perform.
ChristieOhh: Country singers are becoming more popular and doing a lot with different genres, how do you feel about it?
Ricky: It is becoming more popular and we’re seeing the influence of pop, too. I think it’s awesome; it draws in more listeners and artists, which draws more attention to the music. There are lot of country artist in Nashville, and me and my camp are just getting started to pitch my new album, so there is a lot of work to come.
ChristieOhh: How would you describe your music/album “Spinning My Wheel”?
Ricky: I would say it is two sided; you would say he’s probably a partier with substance. My music is very eclectic; my record has 16 songs that I’m trying to express what I am about and have going on. When I perform I end up playing more drinking songs and fast songs that I know the crowd will enjoy. Yet, I have several songs that are full of great lyrics and substance. I’m all over the place on that one.
ChristieOhh: The ladies seem to love you! Why do think the ladies like you so much?
Ricky: Who? Me? No, what’s wrong with these women? Ha-ha! I think women like the confidence, guitar and -what I’m hoping- a good voice. I think ladies are more likely to tweet than the guys will…lol!
ChristieOhh: What’s the plan at this time?
Ricky: Just to get to where I’m trying to go. I want to team up and get a good record deal. The key is a GOOD record deal; get with a group that is going to believe in what you do and team up with you to get it out to the masses.
ChristieOhh: How can we get your album, “Spinning My Wheels”?
Ricky: My website RickyYoung.com and on iTunes. I also post a ton of videos and stuff at Facebook.com/RYMusic and Twitter @RickyYoungMusic
