Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

ChristieOhh: Was music a big part of growing up in your home?

Vaughn: Yes! I grew up in a musical family. My grandmother played the organ, my mother was a choir director and sings, my dad was a drummer and tenure. JL (short for John Legend) and I was always singing growing up. Even now, every Christmas my family get around the piano and sing-both sides of my family, it’s in my blood.

ChristieOhh: When did you discover you could sing?

Vaughn: (laughs) When girls asked me to sing on the phone. They would ask me to sing to me and I was like yea I got u. At home they would tell me to shut up and stop singing but the girls always wanted me to sing to them.

ChristieOhh: What are some great memories for you so far?

Vaughn: I have a lot of great memories; traveling the world, singing background for my brother and opening up. The magic moment hasn’t happened just yet but I know it is soon to come, I can feel it!

ChristieOhh: Being that John Legend is your brother, do you feel any pressure?

Vaughn: No pressure. I’m just doing my thing. John did what he was supposed to do…that’s shine. I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do. I’m here to do my thing. It’s no competition between us at all. All brotherly love!

ChristieOhh: Who has influenced your career?

Vaughn: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Raphael Saadiq, Mint Conditon, The Winans Family and several other artists as well. It’s a lot of talent out here.

ChristieOhh: Who would you love to work with?

Vaughn: D’Angelo…he’s very talented!

ChristieOhh: What do you want to give the world through your music?

Vaughn: I want to give the world good music, real music. I want to be as transparent as I can. I want to give the world reality through music, something good to listen too; good lyrics along with good sound/tunes.

ChristieOhh: What do you do outside of music?

Vaughn: I work out to keep my body tight. When I’m really bored I start drawing and I do a little acting . I spend a lot of time with my children. That’s about it.

ChristieOhh: Was being an artist your first career choice?

Vaughn: No, I wanted to go to the NBA. I had hoop dreams going on. I didn’t make it that far. I knew it was over when I stop listening to the coach in college. But now I’ve picked up the pen, pad and microphone. I’ve been entertaining since a kid. It’s my thing.

ChristieOhh: What’s next for you?

Vaughn: My mix tape comes out in March, “Life of a Player”. I have an album dropping shortly after the mix tape drops. Expect everything out of the mix tape. I’m bringing good R&B ballets, Mid and Up tempo, Soulful/Popish type feel. Get the people moving and their ears listening. It’s going to be the same for the album. The sound of the album is not going to be far from the mix tape.

ChristieOhh: Any feautures on the mix tape, “Life of a Player”?

Vaughn: Oh yes! My brother, John Legend, Rick Ross, Olivia, Prodigy and a new artist by the name of Dunson. Majority of tracks were produced by Grammy Nominated Phat Boiz, they produced my brother’s first single.

Anthony’s music is available on iTunes and on Amazon.
